I know a bunch of us have preferences and opinions on Away Messages on instant messaging applications. From what I gathered here are some annoying things I've found on various Away Messages.
Self-Quoting - I hate when people post a log of an IM conversation where they think they said something funny and self quote themselves.
Long Ass Lyric Excerpts - I hate when people post the entire lyrics to a song in their away messages. Not only is it pointless but it engulfs my screen when I roll over your name in Pidgin. It wouldn't be so bad if maybe you post a single line or something. I once sarcastically mocked this in one of my own away messages where I posted the entire lyrics of the "Witch Doctor" Song and the "Pi" Song.
Away, yet not Away - I hate when people engage in an IM conversation with me yet keep their status on Away. Everytime I go to reply to something theyve said, they're IM Application auto-responds to me with their away message, followed by their actual response to something I've said. This combined with "Long Ass Lyric Excerpts" is ultimate annoyance and immediate strangulation.
